Excel is proud to announce pitchers Ben Tootle, CC Watson and Trey Pilkington have been drafted in Major League Baseball's 2009 First-Year Player Draft. Tootle, of Oxford, was drafted in the third round by the Minnesota Twins; Watson, of Heflin, was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 29th round; and Pilkington, of Oxford, was chosen by the New York Mets in the 46th round. 

Announcements from all three players regarding their future plans are expected soon.


BLUE SOX TEAM COMPLETES SEASON

The Excel Blue Sox  team has completed summer play and finished with a 24-12-2 record.

The team's highlights include winning the East Cobb Perfect Game BCS Regional tournament with an undefeated record and finishing 13th out of 30 teams in the invitation-only Perfect Game BCS National Championship in Fort Myers, Fla., where they defeated the eventual champions, the South Florida Elite Squad. 

Additionally, the team secured its place as 16th of 96 teams competing in the Perfect Game World Wood Bat tournament at East Cobb. They wrapped up the season at the Grand Slam World Series in Panama City Beach, Fla., coming in second place.

Blue Sox standout pitcher Justin Camp is ranked by Perfect Game Crosschecker as the number 30 prospect for 2011 graduates, and the Blue Sox team is ranked 28th in the country for 15-U teams.

BLUE WAVE WINS SMOLTZ-GRISSOM CHAMPIONSHIP AT TURNER FIELD

On May 25th, the Blue Wave won the Smoltz-Grissom Wood Bat Tournament championship played at Turner Field, home of the Atlanta Braves. The team beat the MGBA Eagles 3-1 to take home the tournament championship trophy. The Blue Wave closed out the weekend with a 3-0-1 record.
