OXFORD, Ala. – Excel Baseball Academy has formed its first spring showcase team – the Excel Blue Wave – comprised mostly of 17-year-olds from across Alabama, which will play in several tournaments in the Southeast through the end of the summer.
The team’s head coach, Steve Gendron, and assistant coach, Josh Beshears, bring more than 40 years combined baseball experience to the team.
“We’re excited about forming this team of talented players from across the state,” said Gendron. “It’s an excellent learning opportunity for these young men. We’re looking forward to providing them a chance to improve their skills and showcase their talents in front of professional scouts and college coaches.”
Gendron is a former Florida Marlins infielder who retired from professional baseball in June 2007. Beshears is a former Winnipeg Goldeyes and Kalamazoo Kings pitcher. Along with Matthew Maniscalco, Beshears and Gendron operate Excel Baseball Academy in Oxford.
Members of the Excel Blue Wave team include Justin Chain of Childersburg, Josh Doyle of Hartselle, Judd Edwards of Oxford, Chase Forest of Montgomery, Sam Frost of Hoover, Chad Girodo of Hartselle, Austin Golden of Cullman, Cade Medley of East Limestone, Tyler Mims of Hoover, Kyle O’Dell of Oxford, Trey Pilkington of Oxford, Ryan Roberts of Pelham, Garrett Turrentine of Hartselle, CC Watson of Cleburne County, Jaret Veal of Cullman, and Adam Windsor of Clay-Chalkville.
