The Excel teams began their seasons this weekend in Alpharetta, Ga., with a showcase hosted by Team Georgia. The Excel Blue Rays (15u) started the action with the first game on Saturday putting up 7 runs in the first inning. The Rays played well through a tough schedule and finished the weekend 2-2, led by solid hitting from Jon Sumner (Spain Park) and Dalton Cobb (Saks), as well as a strong pitching performance from Colton Turner (Oxford).
The Excel Blue Sox (16u) finished 3-0-1 through good pitching performances by Zach Lovvorn (Oxford), Frazier Taylor (Oxford), Cole Billingsley (Pell City), as well as a combined no-hitter by Thomas Lowrey (Pelham) and Logan Doss (Alexandria). At the plate, the Blue Sox were led by Zach Lovvorn and Alex Jones (Pell City).
The Excel Blue Wave (17u) wrapped up the weekend with a last-inning win (9-8), led by Mathew Goodson (Oxford) with a 4-4 day including 3 doubles, 3 stolen bases and 4 runs scored (including the game winning run). The Blue Wave finished the weekend 2-1-1 behind solid pitching performances by Hunter Soleymani (Pelham), Jordan Friday (Prattville), Will Brown (Briarwood) and Matt Norton (Cleburne Co.).
The Blue Sox and Blue Wave continue play this weekend in Nashville as the Blue Rays have the weekend off and get ready for the Perfect Game Invitational Tournament.
